Laleh Marzban has won the Best Actress award in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival for her performance in “Falling House” (“Moraqeb”), directed by Mohsen Gharaei. According to Cinemadaily, the Iranian actress received the award during the festival’s closing ceremony, marking a major international recognition for her performance.
The festival also announced its other major awards, with Danish filmmaker May el-Toukhy’s “The Woman Unknown” taking home the Golden Lion. John Malkovich won Best Actor for his role as a CIA agent in Martin McDonagh’s new comedy “The Horse of Wild No. 9.” Marzban’s award adds another notable international honor to the presence of Iranian cinema at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
