Parastoo Ahmadi’s voice has been featured in the Iranian film “Bidad,” marking a new step in her professional career in Iranian cinema. Following the release of the full film on director Soheil Beiraghi’s YouTube channel, music journalist Bahman Babazadeh revealed that Ahmadi’s vocals are heard in several scenes, accompanying the film’s young female protagonist. “Bidad” tells the story of a young woman fighting for her right to sing in Iran and stars Amir Jadidi alongside Leili Rashidi, Sarvin Zabetian and Ali Mollagholipour.
According to Cinemadaily, the film had previously drawn controversy over its portrayal of clothing and the lifestyle of its characters. Beiraghi, several members of the cast, and cinematographer Peyman Shadmanfar have faced legal action by Iran’s judiciary in connection with the film. Ahmadi herself gained widespread attention following her so-called “Imaginary Concert,” and the use of her voice in “Bidad” now connects her work directly with a feature film centered on a woman’s struggle to sing.
